RYA Powerboat Level 1

This RYA Powerboat Level 1 course is a great introduction to powerboating. The course focuses on safety, fun and the general skills needed to handle a powerboat.

Duration: 1 day


Experience Required: None.
Minimum age is eight.
Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate.

At the end of the course you should be able to drive a powerboat under supervision.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

The RYA Powerboat Level Two course is the benchmark course for safe powerboating both in the UK and overseas. At the end of this course you should be a Self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of own limitations and those of craft.

Experience Required: None.
May be preceded by RYA Powerboat Level 1.

Should you wish , you can also apply for your International Certificate of Competence (ICC) certificate on successful completion of this course. An ICC is needed if you aim to use, hire or charter powerboats abroad. Please note the course cost does not cover the application fee but your instructor will help you complete your application and all you have to do is provide two passport photos and a direct application fee to the RYA of £40 or free to RYA members.

Powerboat ICC Test

An International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is needed if you aim to use, hire or charter powerboats abroad. This is all in place to prevent accidents happening and to ensure all boat users are kept safe and well using well organised certification.

Duration: 1 day


Experience Required: A self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of own limitations and those of craft. You should be competent in your powerboating skills up to and including those in the RYA Powerboat Level Two course. Minimum age is 16 years.

You can gain your ICC certificate on successful completion of this test. May we also suggest you research into the specific rules and regulations applicable to the country you are visiting.

Test Content

Written/Oral test covering:-
Regulations, Pilotage, Navigation, Safety, Inland Knowledge(if applicable).

Boat Handling Test covering:-
Preparation, Departing Pontoon, 360` turn in confined space, Securing to a buoy, Man Overboard, High speed manoeuvres, Coming alongside windward pontoon.

Please note

The cost covers just the ICC test and not the application fee. However your instructor will provide and help you complete your application form and all you have to do is send your form, two passport photos and an application fee of £40 or free to RYA members direct to the RYA.

RYA Level 2 Direct Assessment

If you feel that you are of RYA Powerboat Level Two standard but have never taken the course you may take this assessment to gain your RYA Powerboat Level Two certificate if successful.

Experience Required: You should be a self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of own limitations and those of craft. You should be competent in your powerboating skills up to and including those in the RYA Powerboat Level Two course.

A series of assessed powerboating exercises will confirm your ability to powerboat competently and confidently to the standard of the RYA Powerboat Level Two certificate.

RYA Coastal Endorsement

This course allows you to transfer your RYA Level Two powerboating skills from a non tidal to tidal environment. By the end of the day you should competently handle your powerboat in tidal conditions.

RYA Safety Boat

This course can be taken by those wishing to increase their skills on the water, provide safety cover for other water users and anyone working in the marine industry that needs a safety boat certificate.

Duration: 1 day


Experience Required: RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to this course along with a basic understanding of sailing boats and windsurfers.

 

At the end of the course you should be able to provide safety or support cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.

Powerboat Instructor

This 4-day course will teach you the various techniques and teaching methods required to instruct the RYA Level 1 and 2 courses.

Duration: 2 days

Candidates should have logged at least five seasons’ experience of powerboating, preferably in a range of boat types and sizes. For those who use powerboats as an integral part of their normal full-time occupation, this period is reduced to one season.

Candidates will hold the RYA’s Level 2 powerboat certificate and a valid first aid certificate.* No candidate under the age of 16 will be accepted for training.

POA

Own boat tuition

You may have a motorboat or powerboat that you feel you haven’t quite got to know very well. You may simply need some pointers here and there or you may feel you need a number of sessions going through boat handling, navigation and safety. Every boat is different so instruction in your own boat is a really wise move.

Duration: 4 hours

Session content

The session is entirely tailored to your needs and your boat. You can cover whatever you want to improve on; it is entirely your choice. Our instructors will spend time disscussing with you what you hope to get out of your boat and provide advice on the best course of action.

Powerboat Experience

Have one of our qualified skippers take guests for an exhilarating jaunt within Blakeney’s beautiful Harbour aboard our RIB.

Duration: 1½ hours


Experience Required: None

We can take up to three passengers and they will be doing nearly all the driving for the period of time we are out on the water.

These experiences last for one and a half hours and are always great fun.
