Adventurer

A great start to your child’s sailing adventures, this programme will work towards achieving RYA Stage 1 and 2.

Our goal is to fill children with energy and enthusiasm for sailing, with a focus on having fun and promoting confidence on the water. We will introduce the basic concepts of dinghy sailing and develop some key skills, providing your child with a good baseline for furthering their sailing knowledge.

Once the RYA Stage 2 skills have been achieved your child will be ready to progress onto our Explorer programme.

Experience Required: Must know the colour of the sea, that’s all folks! Ages 7 to 16 years.

Explorer

Focusing on independent sailing and developing your boat-handling skills, this programme will work towards achieving the RYA Stage 3 and 4.

Our aim is to enable your child to get the best out of their boat and to develop key problem solving skills whilst afloat. When possible we will take opportunities to explore the harbour, launching and recovering in different circumstances and getting to grips with new sailing skills.

Once the RYA Stage 4 skills have been achieved your child will be ready to progress onto our Challenger programme.

Experience Required: Completion of the Norfolketc Adventurer or up to and including the RYA Youth Sailing Stage Two course. Ages 7 to 16 years.

Challenger

This programme provides an opportunity for keen sailors to challenge themselves and achieve ultimate independence. Our aim is to challenge your child, encourage fast decision-making and practice some advanced boat handling skills.

The programme develops the RYA Racing, Seamanship and Day Sailing skills.

Experience Required: Completion of the Norfolketc Explorer programme or Sailing skills to the standard of the RYA Youth Stage 4.

Programme Content:

Racing skills including racing procedures, rules and strategies

Seamanship skills including sailing without a rudder, sailing backwards, reefing afloat

Day Sailing skills including planning a day sail, pilotage and changing weather conditions.

Free Sail

Free sail days allow your child to get out on the water with safety boat cover to practice their sailing and develop skills and knowledge previously taught on a course. Our instructors will be ensuring they are safe in the harbour at all times whilst they have a great time afloat.
